However, they were all there willing to risk their lives. There is romance between a few of the characters, which adds something enjoyable to the story, but it did seem a little too rushed by the end. I did not find this hard to believe; in Spirit Vale, people regularly claimed to get signals from locales much farther than outer space. Ugggh, I’m really trying not to swear here. Another thing i loved was the information about Tesla and his inventions. Distant Waves did have a somewhat paranormal feel to it and I would imagine that it would appeal to some young adult paranormal fans, though I did feel that the writing and plot itself is more geared more towards middle-grade children. Suzanne lived pretty close to the ocean and going to Jones Beach was one of her favorite activities Even today, if she goes too long without seeing the ocean, she starts feeling restless.

The book was badly paced and seemed to be smashed together at the end. I’m just gonna leave it. Suzanne lived pretty close to the ocean and going to Jones Beach was one of her favorite activities Even today, if she goes too long without seeing t Suzanne Weyn grew up in Williston Park, Long Island, New York. The book dedicates more time to the spiritual world than developing its own characters. I did not waste 2 days of my life to read about their mother’s awful psychic abilities and the fact that her daughters “Inherited” her gift it sickened me. Most of the story is actually focusd around spiritulism. Return to Book Page. Anyways, another thing that weirded me out was the sudden appearance and disappearance of her long-lost aunt and uncle, and the way her mother tried to hide the truth from her.

Distant Waves

How did this woman get this published? There was also many unnecessary characters and I felt like not a single wsyn was fully developed. I will be honest by saying I only read the book because it said it involved the Titanic. Suzanns teaches part time at City College in New York. The character I truly despised and wanted dead was their controlling spiritistic mother I was rooting for her to die and groaned when I found out she wasn’t even on the ship. We know what she is, but we never get how she ever feels about her situation.

Sep 03, Carrousel rated it did not like it Shelves: Even then, what a pathetic take on one of the most famous and horrible catastrophes in history. It was better in writing than The Diamond Secretbut I don’t know much about the time dsitant, so I can’t s It was an interesting concept, the Titanic and the Spiritualist movement, but it was all kind of bland to me.

The book dedicates more time to the spiritual world than developing its own characters. Racism this one was really random and let’s not forget the sudden and pathetic “love story”.

I also wejn Jane’s complete obsession with both Tesla and Thad to be quite unnerving, she meets Tesla once and spends the next two years of her life creating a stalker like scrapbook of him as well as falling in love with Thad after only knowing him a few days.

Distant Waves: a Novel of the Titanic, by Suzanne Weyn | Blogging for a Good Book

Refresh and try again. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle? Sorry if any of these events turns around in the book, but I couldn’t stand another page of it for much longer. I liked the Mimi and Victory storyline and the idea of them being married on the ship.

Well, it has no plot. That’s all I have to say. It seemed like the mention of the celebrities were what set it in this historical period and not bu was in the descriptive details which it could have used more of. All in all, wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

Ok it is very rare that I give up on a book. She unconditionally loves her children, but she has some things happening in her mind as well: Sometimes the story throws some random message in your face, something that has nothing to do with anything. A new wavee for me to keep an eye on!

The Bar Code Rebellion Sailing toward what might very well be their demise, Jane and her sisters must hope that somebody or something is out there watching out for them.

Knowing how things ended up with the Titanic I was curious about who saves and wouldn’t survive the sinking, and adding to that the element of time travel made this a very unputdownabble book.

As for the lack of plot: Two years later Jane does a story about survivors from the Titanic. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers.

I’m going to recycle it. I read this book years ago and I’d completely forgotten about its existence until I saw it in the bookstore earlier tonight and had to remember how dull and drab it was.

I really did enjoy it. The narrator is four years old for 42 pages and uses the words “violently, convulsing, frigidity, overwhelming, impulse, beseeched, reverie, reticence, condescension”.

Distant Waters by Suzanne Weyn by K S on Prezi

I wish this book had been packaged differently because as stated before, Distanh was bt upset when I realized what this book was really about. Post was not sent – check your email addresses! She has four sisters named Mimi, Amelie, Emma, and Blythe. Four sisters and their mother make their way from a spiritualist town in New York to London, becoming acquainted with journalist W. Taylor’s five daughters grow up in rather unusual circumstances, and none of them are typical American girls.

The ship starts to fill with water. And oh-my-god, was it dull. I am about pages in, but I am close to dropping it into the trash. Thad and Jane help Tesla make a time machine.
